Totem-an object in the natural world collectively defined as sacred.

  • Jessica and her friends went into Madame Mambuza’s store they found many totems that are sacred to the African culture.

Charisma- extraordinary personal qualities that can infuse people with emotion and turn them into followers.

  • Jessica has lots of charisma and uses it throughout the movie. An example of this is when she buys a smoothie and gets out of paying for it by flirting with the worker.

Marriage- a legal relationship, usually involving economic cooperation, sexual activity, and childbearing.

  • Carol and Stan (Jessica’s mom and dad) are married and they experience many things that are common to people who are married.
Family- A social institution found in all societies that unites people in cooperative groups to care for one another, including any children.
  • The Spencer's (Stan, Carol, Jessica, and Booger) are just one of the families in the movie.

Kinship- A social bond based on common ancestry, marriage, or adoption.
  • Jessica and Booger are brother and sister, therefore making them kin. They fight and bicker but in the end they will always be there to support one another.
Endogamy- Marriage between people of the same social category.
  • Stan and Carol are an example of endogamy by both being caucasian and they appear to be around the same age.
Monogamy- Marriage that unites two partners.
  • Stan and Carols relationship is monogamous in the fact that they are married to each other and only each other.
Religiosity- The importance of religion in a person's life.

  • Keecia is the valedictorian and makes a speech at the graduation ceremony. In her speech she states that she is proud to be Korean, African, and Jewish. By stating she is proud to be Jewish it shows that it has a significant importance in her life.
